PWHPA announces 2022-23 season rosters

The Professional Women’s Hockey Player Association (PWHPA) announced on Wednesday the rosters of its four region-agnostic teams for the upcoming 2022-23 season.

The PWHPA season will see stars such as Marie Philip-Poulin, Sarah Nurse, Hilary Knight and Kendall Coyne Schofield compete in various events across North America in the Secret Dream Gap Tour. Kicking off with a showcase in Montreal from Oct. 15-16, the tour then moves to Truro, N.S. from Nov. 4-6.

In the past, the teams were built around where players lived and trained, but that is no longer the case. Instead, a new player ranking format was created to evaluate and distribute the 100 players, from a pool of more than 150 registrants representing six different countries, evenly across the four teams. An external panel of women’s hockey experts — featuring people with NCAA, USports and international expertise — made the evaluations.

“The talent pool of the PWHPA is deeper than ever before and I’m excited to compete with and against the best of the best this season,” said Coyne Schofield, the PWHPA’s president and a forward for Team Adidas.

Further events and dates are set to be announced in the coming weeks.

Across the four teams there are 43 Olympians, more than 75 players with experience at the national level, and several recent top college graduates.
