5 Strategies to Survive (and Thrive) in a Recession

When you hear the word ‘recession’, what feelings come up for you? Fear? Anxiety? Dread? For most people, it’s a combination of all three. But if we succumb to those feelings and let ourselves get swept up in the doom and gloom of it all, there’s no way our businesses are going to survive, let alone thrive.

However, it IS possible, and it’s often in challenging times that we really find our strength and have our biggest breakthroughs!

So whether it’s a recession or some other crisis, here are the 5 things I’m going to focus on to get through it. These strategies can radically uplevel every area of your life, not just your business, so start practising them now and you’ll be ready to tackle anything that comes your way.

Reframe your perspective

This is such a powerful tool to help you get through any challenge. Instead of getting sucked into the fear and uncertainty, ask yourself ‘How am I going to get through this? What steps can I take? How am I going to stay connected to my dreams?’

Build your ‘resilience toolkit’

Make a conscious effort to work on your personal development, even if it’s just for a few minutes a day. Being able to tune in with yourself and regulate your emotions is so empowering, and it can make all the difference to how you handle challenging situations. My favourite tools are breathing and visualisation — I do these every single day and it’s made a huge difference to my mindset!

Go above and beyond for your audience

No matter what’s going on in the world, people aren’t going to stop wanting and needing things — so use this opportunity to go above and beyond to serve your audience. How can you show up and be of service? How can you add value? Think creatively about ways to do this in a crisis… maybe your struggles or the struggles that your audience is going through could spark your next big idea.

Immerse yourself in learning

When we learn, we expand our skills. When we focus on growing, we grow. In a crisis, there are so many things that are outside of our control… but we can always keep learning and expanding our minds. It’s especially helpful to read inspiring stories about how other people built their businesses during challenging times (Airbnb is a good one to start with!)

Surround yourself with the right people

If you’re spending time with people who are stuck in a negative mindset, then it’s going to be harder for you to break out of it. Instead, surround yourself with people who dream big and aren’t afraid to face challenges.

I go into more detail on each of these tips in this week’s episode, so I really hope you enjoy it and find it helpful!

We’re all in this together, so let’s not sink… let’s swim 🙂
