A big move has happened with the San Francisco 49ers and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
While many saw the veteran quarterback leaving, he and the 49ers have reworked his contract.
This restructure of his contract now gives the team money to spend this season.
They save around $15 million with this new one-year deal.
However, it’s the language of his contract that is interesting.
While he’s set to become the backup to Trey Lance, his contract language could put him on a playoff contending team.
Only Garoppolo Can Approve Of Any Trade Deal
Everyone who wanted Jimmy G as their quarterback saw his contract and didn’t make the call.
However, his new deal saves any team who wants him a lot of money.

But when he reworked his deal, some new language was added into the mix.
This new language gives Garoppolo the final say in any trade, and he can’t be franchise tagged.
“Garoppolo’s no-trade clause does not mean there is no possibility he will be traded, according to ESPN. It simply means that Garoppolo would have to be included in talks, and that he would have to consent to the trade.”

With him taking a pay cut, it opens doors for a trade deal, pending Jimmy G’s approval.
He can now say yes or no to any offers, with his contract being much lower than the $22+ million he was going to make in 2022.
.It also means he could head to a contender, like the Cleveland Browns, who need a QB.
He could also go to the Rams, who might need a backup behind Matthew Stafford.
The contract language, and lower salary, put the power in his hands of going to a team who’s contending in 2022.
However, there’s one team that’s could contend right now that has a lock on Jimmy G.
Garoppolo’s New Contract Helps 49ers Get Additional Help In 2022
The pay cut Garoppolo took could help the 49ers get someone to make them contenders this season.
With him having that trade clause in his new contract, a team can’t trade for him without his input.
So he decides where he goes this season, meaning if he helps make the 49ers a contender, he’ll stick with them.
With the extra money, the 49ers can get an offensive weapon to improve their receiver core.
They already secured Deebo Samuels this offseason, and they have tight-end George Kittle.
Adding another receiver gives them a triple threat in the passing game.
However, they could get Trey Lance more protection on the front line.

“I think the first look is really at offensive line. … I think they need help up front right now.”

No matter what they chose, the money they have is thanks to Garoppolo and his new deal.
Garoppolo Ultimately Makes The 49ers Contenders
While some doubt Garoppolo ever affected games for the 49ers, those fans are incorrect with that assessment,
He helps manage games, something that got them into the playoffs multiple times.
While he makes mistakes, he has redeemed himself in critical games.
The last game of the 2021-22 NFL season saw him manage the game, and the 49ers to victory, after making mistakes early.
Had it been Lance managing the game, the outcome could have turned into a loss for San Francisco.
So while he might not play this season, he’s there to help Lance manage the team.
That helps make San Francisco a contender this season.
