Take at least one risk per day, CEO says

Sander van’t Noordende, CEO of human resources consulting firm Randstad, shares his career-defining lightbulb moment with CNBC’s “My Biggest Lessons.”

It can be tempting when climbing the corporate ladder to keep your head down and work hard, but stepping outside f your comfort zone could be the key to unlocking your career potential.

It’s a stance that human resources consulting firm Randstad CEO Sander van’t Noordende believes helped him, particularly early on in his career.

“One risk per day, that’s what we all should be doing,” van’t Noordende told CNBC “Make it.”

At one of his first jobs, he was tasked with calling a client that he did not know much about. The pitch went well, and van’t Noordende got a follow-up meeting.

He said the experience helped him give him a new perspective on taking risks.

“The worst thing that could have happened is that he would have said no, and he would have hung up the phone,” said van’t Noordende. “Nothing would have gone wrong from there.”

This is just one of five of Sander van’t Noordende’s biggest lessons. Watch the video above for more.
