The Pittsburgh Steelers hope to build on their unexpected playoff appearance last season.

They are doing so by finding a replacement for Ben Roethlisberger who retired after 18 seasons.

Mitchell Trubisky will most likely take over from him, while Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph are the backups.

They have also added talent through the NFL Draft by adding Pickett, George Pickens, DeMarvin Leal, and Calvin Austin to the squad.

But as they acquire players that can help their cause, the Steelers are also losing others in return.

Pittsburgh Steelers Radio Network member Dale Lolley tweeted, “The injuries for Karl Joseph (ankle) and Anthony Miller (shoulder) are season-ending. Tough break for Miller, who was on pace to make the 53-man roster.”

This season would have been Joseph’s second with the Steelers but he can’t play due to an ankle injury.

It’s a sad development for him after playing only two games last season.

But in some ways, his season-ending injury will open up a spot for someone else to make the final roster.

Meanwhile, Miller suffered a shoulder injury, ending his hopes of making it to the team.

Pittsburgh Still In Good Shape At Miller’s Position

Even if Miller won’t play this season, the Steelers can still compete for a postseason berth thanks to their receiving corps featuring Diontae Johnson, Chase Claypool, tight end Pat Freiermuth, and a second-round pick in the 2022 draft, George Pickens.

Running back Najee Harris is also a versatile threat in the passing game as well.

Therefore, whoever the starting quarterback will be should maximize the talent they have on offense.

They have several go-to options that can keep them marching down the field for touchdowns.
