Cracker Barrel Accused of Being ‘Woke’ for Adding Impossible Vegan Sausage Patties to the Breakfast Menu

Of all the things people could choose to be upset about in 2022, Tennessee-based Southern restaurant and country store chain Cracker Barrel adding vegan sausage patties to its breakfast menu was certainly not on anyone’s outrage radar this year.

But here we are, America. This is the line in the sand some folks are clearly upset Cracker Barrel crossed — a line crossed which apparently makes the restaurant no longer a safe space for those hoping to avoid seeing vegan options on menus.

Earlier this week, Cracker Barrel posted to its Facebook and Instagram pages that the roadside restaurant chain was adding an Impossible sausage patty option to its Build Your Own Breakfast menu. The Facebook crowd, in particular, is not having it.

There are currently more than 11,000 comments on the Facebook post, ranging from outright anger over the addition of the vegan sausage option to satirically funny to people pointing out one’s right not to order the meatless sausage and praising the brand for its inclusivity and filling a food need for a new customer base.

A few people even accused the restaurant brand of being too “woke” for them now, vowing to never eat at another Cracker Barrel again while on the road or for their regular weekend breakfast outing.

Cracker Barrel took to Instagram later in the week, posting an image of an Impossible sausage patty and pork sausage patty shaking hands with a message that reads, “Where pork-based and plant-based sausage lovers can breakfast all day in harmony.”

There are over 660 Cracker Barrel locations across the United States, located mostly along major interstate highways. Florida includes the largest number of Cracker Barrel locations in one state, followed by Texas, Tennessee, and Georgia, with over 40 locations statewide.
