The trade market for the San Francisco 49ers and Jimmy Garoppolo is growing as preseason is nearly here.
However, some very interesting teams are rumored to be interested in the 49ers quarterback.
One of those teams is the New York Giants.
But should they be interested in him when they already have Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor?
Trading For Garoppolo Has Its Pros And Cons
When examining the Giants’ history with their QB situation, you see the team hasn’t protected their QB very well.
While some of the line issues were addressed with the 2022 NFL Draft, one player can’t fix the entire line.

If the team really wants Jimmy G, they need to give him a great offensive line to protect him.
Giving him protection would allow them to enjoy the pros of having him on the team.
He can easily use Saquon Barkley to his advantage if Barkley can remain healthy in 2022.
He’s also a good game manager, something the Giants need on offense since Eli Manning retired.
However, the cons of Garoppolo come from his history of injuries.
It is also why he needs a good offensive line to protect him.
But even weighing the pros and cons of getting him, they already have a lot invested in their two current QBs.
So getting Jimmy G wouldn’t make much sense.
Giants Money Would Be Better Spent Elsewhere
While Garoppolo would give the Giants a better chance of winning games, their money is better spent on other players.
The main areas the Giants need to invest their money are on the offensive line and wide receivers.
With the receivers dropping passes, it’s clear the team could use some better guys to help their current QB.
One category the Giants need to improve in, drop rate.
NYG receivers dropped 7.8% of passes last year, accounting for 28 dropped passes.
That CAN NOT happen at the NFL level. Guys need to hang onto the football.

Kenny Golladay, their big signing from last year, had a disappointing season with the team.
However, the Giants are hopeful that he can turn things around after having zero touchdowns last season.
But if the team has inconsistency at quarterback, he might not return to those 1,000 yard seasons like he had with Matt Stafford in Detroit.
That’s might be why the team is interested in Garoppolo, despite needing other things fixed first with the team.

Getting him would only spell disaster for the team in multiple ways.
A Garoppolo Trade Would Ruin Any Hopes For Jones
If the Giants are behind Jones, they won’t get Garoppolo.
It would stop all the progress the team’s made with him since he took over.
That’s not saying Jimmy G wouldn’t be better, but it would hurt their long-term future quarterback.
However, if they don’t see Jones as their long-term QB, it wouldn’t matter what happens to Jones.
But with the injury history of Garoppolo, Jones might step back in if the team got Jimmy G.
While it’s all in how ownership sees Jones with any trade, it would also show everyone what they felt about him.
By passing on Garoppolo, they are keeping their faith firmly placed in Jones.
But if they get the 49ers QB, then they clearly don’t trust in Jones as much as they’ve told fans.
