Quarterback Baker Mayfield was traded to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a conditional fifth-rounder in the 2024 NFL Draft.
That pick could become a fourth-rounder if Mayfield plays 70 percent of the snaps.
It’s a condition that Mayfield can satisfy given that he is the top option on their depth chart and that his fellow quarterbacks are inconsistent.
But even though he already plays for the Panthers, the media can’t help but ask him about the recent developments with the Cleveland Browns.

Mayfield said, “I’m paid to play quarterback (in Carolina), not weigh in on decisions elsewhere.”
Therefore, it doesn’t make sense for the media to ask him questions about his former team.
Baker has moved on and so did the Browns, especially after signing Deshaun Watson.
He also pointed out that he is preparing to defeat his former team in Week 1 of the 2022 season.
Unfortunately, Mayfield will not be able to compete against Watson because the latter might serve his verdict soon.
Watson’s Impending Suspension
Meanwhile, the quarterback that replaced Mayfield in Cleveland is facing a suspension of up to six games.
That verdict is the judgment of former federal judge Sue Robinson who weighed the arguments of both sides before coming up with a conclusion.
The NFL could appeal the recommendation before a final verdict is made.
However, there is no guarantee that they will get a longer suspension because Robinson has established the base at six games.
But until Watson takes the field, Mayfield will compete against Jacoby Brissett.
That said, their Week 1 encounter is already a must-win for both Carolina and Cleveland.
After all, it’s nice to have bragging rights against the other squad, especially for Mayfield who has been driven away.
