Italy-based manufacturer Granarolo has moved again to expand its cheese business with the acquisition of 60% of mozzarella maker Industria Latticini G.Cuomo.

Financial terms were not disclosed. Industria Latticini G.Cuomo manufactures cheese including mozzarella and ricotta.

Based in Aprilia in central Italy, the family-owned company made “an average pre-Covid turnover” of EUR12m (US$12.3m), Granarolo said. The firm employs 34 staff.

The Cuomo family will continue to work within the business.

“For some time, Granarolo has been focusing its attention on the cheese market, which makes the most of our local milk and is a standard-bearer of our best ‘Made in Italy’ products abroad,” Granarolo president Gianpiero Calzolari said.

In October last year, Granarolo bought local gorgonzola supplier Mario Costa and said it would look to build the new asset’s presence at home and abroad.

The same month, Granarolo entered the US market after snapping up local cheese producer and distributor Calabro Cheese Corp.

In May this year, the group bought a majority stake in White & Seeds, a fledgling, local firm marketing protein-enhanced foods.
