Some NFL fans are looking forward to the new season, while others might not be so happy about this season.
With the moves during the NFL offseason, some teams made moves to become contenders this year.
Other teams fell flat when trying to improve their team.
However, the team everyone is talking about for 2022 is the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Fans want to know if the team can be a contender in 2022 with their two new quarterbacks.
But should they even be considered as contenders this season, or are they doomed to fail in 2022?
Loss Of Big Ben Deals A Huge Blow In The Steelers Contender Talks
With the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger in 2022, the Steelers now have to rely on a new quarterback for the first time in over a decade.
That now leaves the Steelers with Mitchell Trubisky and Kenny Pickett for the 2022 season.
Neither player is the star that Big Ben was in his time with Pittsburgh.
However, Trubisky and Pickett will battle it out to see who’s best suited for the team.
Currently, Trubisky is going into the preseason as the potential starter, while Pickett has been working with the third-string offense this offseason.
QB Mitchell Trubisky will most likely be the starter for the #Steelers at the start of the season. Rookie QB Kenny Pickett has been taking reps with the 3rd string team

But Trubisky doesn’t really inspire confidence with some NFL fans, as he’s suffered under the coaching of Matt Nagy when he was in Chicago.
While he is getting better coaching in Pittsburgh, the damage to him might be too much to repair.
Will New Coaching And Starting Role Help Trubisky Improve?
The former first-round pick has a history of making poor decisions with the ball.
Most of his mistakes come from a lack of progressing through his reads properly.
When former Browns QB Baker Mayfield had issues in Cleveland, fans would compare him to Trubisky.
You can not watch the games and determine Baker is the one who won those games…I love baker but he’s is constantly making the same mistakes. Staring down receivers. Not progressing through reads. Missing targets. He’s a better Mitch Trubisky.

However, they would say he was better than the former Bears quarterback.
Trubisky’s history of missing targets, staring down his receivers, and not progressing through his reads is clear to everyone.
But some feel it was his lack of coaching in Chicago that causes him to have these issues as a player.
While that could be true, it will be interesting if the coaching of Mike Tomlin can fix those issues.
If so, then they might still be contenders, despite losing Big Ben to retirement.
Tough AFC Might Stonewall Any Success Trubisky Has In 2022
While the new starting QB in Pittsburgh could find success with the team, a tough AFC might keep them out of the playoffs.
With Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, and Cleveland all making moves to improve, it’s hard to keep up with them.
There’s only seven playoffs spots up for grabs in 2022.
However, the Steelers only have four chances to get into the playoffs with four spots going to the division winners.
So they have two choices to make the playoffs, win the division, or become a wild card team.
The AFC North has three other teams that could stop Pittsburgh from winning the division.
The other AFC teams can clearly do good enough in 2022 to push Pittsburgh out of contention this year.
That’s why they shouldn’t be considered contenders for the 2022 season.
