Kakwenza Rukirabashaija: Ugandan creator alleges torture through safety products and services


The prestigious Ugandan satirical novelist and executive critic, Kakwenza Rukirabashaija, has described to the BBC allegedly being tortured by the hands of the Ugandan safety products and services after his arrest in December 2021. Mr Rukirabashaija, who received the PEN Global Creator of Braveness award for 2021, used to be arrested referring to tweets about President Yoweri Museveni and his son and stored in an unknown location till early January.

Mr Rukirabashaija introduced on Wednesday that he had since fled the rustic.

The alleged torture whilst in detention has brought about an outpouring of shock in Uganda, and debate about remedy of suspects detained through safety forces. The BBC has introduced those allegations to the military, which has but to reply.

The BBC’s Persistence Atuhaire spoke to Mr. Rukirabashaija about his allegations.
